OUR INTERNS

Since 2021, we have welcomed 18 interns on to the Fi Wi Road Summer Internship. All of our interns are Geography or Geoscience undergraduates with Black heritage. Their research interests and knowledge span across the discipline, and each brings their own unique perspectives and experiences. Each year our interns have also been paired with a mentor, in previous years from the Race, Culture and Equality Working Group (RACE).

Want to hear more about the internship? Join Temi, Danielle, Brianna, and Rachel from the 2023 FWR Cohort in conversation with Rita Gayle as they reflect on their experiences during and since taking part in the internship.

Dr Rita Gayle is the Postdoctoral Fellow for the 'Conjunctures Strand' of The Stuart Hall Archive Project at the University of Birmingham, UK. Rita's PhD thesis was concerned with the Millennial Generation of Black Feminists who formed creative collectives across Britain between 2013 - 2020. Rita is the co-host of The New Nationwide Project on Repeater Radio and is the co-founder of The Global Black Geographies Collective.
